The board of the Saudi Tourism Authority has appointed Ageel Alshaibani as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the role taking effect in early September 2026. The change was announced publicly at the start of the month, following the end of the previous CEO's tenure.
Before leading the Authority, Alshaibani served as Deputy Minister of Tourism for Strategic Planning and Monitoring at the Ministry of Tourism, where he contributed to the National Tourism Strategy and a range of sector development initiatives. He also previously held the position of Head of Strategy at the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk).
He brings around 18 years of professional experience spanning strategic planning, business development, consulting, public services, healthcare, finance, and tourism-sector leadership. He is now listed as CEO of the Authority as well as a member of its board.
Why it matters
Tourism has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the Kingdom and a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030 and its wider economic diversification goals. The leadership appointment is being positioned as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the sector and support national tourism targets.
For residents and visitors, the Authority plays a central role in promoting destinations, experiences, and events across the country. No new fees, service procedures, or regulatory changes for tourism services have been announced in connection with this appointment.
