Saudi Arabia has appointed Abdulmohsen bin Mohammed bin Hamoud Al-Mazyad as Vice Minister of Tourism, under a royal order issued on 12 February 2026.
Al-Mazyad brings direct experience from within the sector, having previously overseen licensing and classification standards across tourism and hospitality. That background places him at the heart of the rules that govern hotels, tour operators and other service providers operating in the Kingdom.
As part of the same changes, Princess Haifa bint Mohammed Al Saud has moved from the vice-minister role to an advisory position carrying ministerial rank.
Why it matters
Tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the Kingdom and a central pillar of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and open the country to more visitors. The appointment reflects the continued focus on strengthening the sector's leadership as it expands.
For residents and expats, decisions made within the Ministry of Tourism shape the quality and standards of the hotels, attractions and travel services they use every day. With his experience in licensing and classification, Al-Mazyad's new role is expected to support consistent standards across a sector that is drawing growing numbers of domestic and international travelers.
