Engineer Fawaz bin Zanaaf bin Fawaz Al-Sahli has been appointed President of the Transport General Authority (TGA) in Saudi Arabia, following a royal order issued in February 2026 granting him the "excellent rank". The TGA is the national regulator for land, rail, and maritime transport and plays a central role in the Kingdom's logistics and transport hub strategy.
Before this appointment, Al-Sahli held several senior positions within the TGA, including Vice President for the regulatory sector alongside leadership roles in land transport regulation. His professional background spans more than 16 years in major rail projects, including oversight roles on the North Line and the Riyadh Metro and Train projects. He earlier worked at the Ministry of Transport in planning and developing land transport, and holds a master's degree in transport engineering from the University of New South Wales in Australia, obtained in 2013.
The royal order references the existing Statute of the Transport General Authority, issued by Council of Ministers Decision 323 dated 22 July 2013, confirming continuity of the authority's legal framework.
Rail sector growth
Under his leadership, the TGA has set ambitious targets for the railway sector, aiming to increase employment from around 13,000 jobs to approximately 100,000 jobs by 2030, in line with growth and major projects in the rail network. The authority has also worked with Saudi universities, including the launch of specialized bachelor's programs in railway transport at King Abdulaziz University. Al-Sahli has represented the Kingdom in international forums, including the 5th Türkiye Maritime Summit 2026 and council meetings of the International Maritime Organization.
For residents and businesses, TGA services for licensing and permits across land, rail, and maritime transport remain available through the authority's official portal, while inquiries and complaints can be directed to the unified customer care contact center on the short number 19929.
