Traffic authorities across Saudi Arabia seized 8,377 illegal motorbikes in a single week during a nationwide road safety campaign that ran from Sunday, August 23, 2026 to Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The campaign covered all regions of the Kingdom, with the highest numbers recorded in Riyadh, where 4,349 motorbikes were seized. Jeddah followed with 1,692, while Makkah, the Holy Capital, recorded 221 and Madinah 192.
The figures reflect enforcement activity within Saudi Arabia only and point to a sustained effort to remove non-compliant and unlicensed motorbikes from public roads.
Why it matters
Illegal motorbikes — including those operated without proper registration or licensing — have long been linked to road safety risks and disruption in residential neighborhoods. For residents and expats alike, the campaign is aimed at improving safety on streets and reducing reckless riding, particularly in the country's busiest urban centers.
The concentration of seizures in Riyadh and Jeddah reflects the higher density of traffic and population in these two cities. Authorities have encouraged riders to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and licensed, and to comply with traffic regulations to avoid penalties and the impounding of their vehicles.
