Jazan's shrimp fishing season on the Red Sea coast has resumed for 2026, launching on 1 September 2026 and running for seven months until the end of March 2027. More than 120 licensed fishing boats are taking part along the Jazan coastline this season.
Officials describe the season as a boost for fisheries sustainability, employment for local fishers, and food security across Jazan's coastal communities. Shrimp is one of the region's main seasonal catches and is counted among Jazan's key marine seasons alongside other fish seasons.
How the season is regulated
Fishing activity in Saudi territorial waters is governed by the national Law of Fishing, Investment and Preservation of Live Aquatic Resources, with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture overseeing licensing, regulation, and conservation. Closed seasons and fishing bans are enforced for specific species to protect stocks, and violations can lead to fines of up to 10,000 SAR.
Beyond wild catches, commercial aquaculture in Jazan is also growing. One major Jazan shrimp producer reported sales of about 35.04 million SAR in the Q1 2026 harvest quarter, up from 13.90 million SAR in the previous culture quarter, driven by the seasonal harvest and stronger market conditions.
At coastal markets, local shrimp typically retails at roughly 30 to 60 SAR depending on size, quality, and daily supply, with larger, higher grades sold at premium prices. Shoppers looking for fresh catches can head to Jazan Fish Market (Souq Al-Samak), near the Corniche and fishermen's harbor in Jazan city. The market operates before dawn, peaking between 06:00 and 09:00. During Ramadan, activity shifts to the afternoon until iftar, when the market grows busier.
