King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah remains operational, with some flight delays and cancellations reported in October 2026. For travellers affected, knowing your passenger rights can help you secure a refund or compensation quickly.
If your flight is cancelled, you can accept the alternative flight offered or reject it and receive a full refund — including any paid seat-selection and baggage fees. Cancellation compensation depends on how early you are notified: 50% of the unused ticket value when notified between 60 and 14 days before departure, 75% when notified between 14 days and 24 hours before departure, and 150% when notified within 24 hours of departure.
Delays carry their own protections. If a delay exceeds two hours, you may terminate the booking and obtain a full ticket refund with no deductions. If a delay exceeds five hours, you may treat the flight as cancelled and claim the applicable cancellation compensation above.
Arrival delays
For delays on arrival, compensation is set at 50 Special Drawing Rights for delays of three to six hours, and 150 Special Drawing Rights for delays exceeding six hours.
If you are affected, contact your airline at the airport first to resolve the issue. If your complaint remains unresolved, you can submit it to the General Authority of Civil Aviation through its passenger-protection complaint channel. Keeping your boarding pass, booking confirmation and receipts for paid extras will make any refund or compensation claim smoother.
