Jeddah Airport Delays: Know Your Passenger Rights

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah remained open and operating during October 2026, though travelers reported flight delays and cancellations. Passengers affected by disruptions have clearly defined rights to refunds and compensation under civil aviation regulations.

When a flight is cancelled, passengers can choose between an alternative flight or a full refund that includes any additional fees already paid. The level of compensation depends on how much advance notice is given: 50% of the unused itinerary value when notified between 60 and 14 days before departure, 75% when notified between 14 days and 24 hours before departure, and 150% when notified within 24 hours of departure.

Delays carry their own protections. A delay of more than two hours allows a passenger to terminate the contract and receive a fee-free refund, while a delay exceeding five hours may be treated as a cancellation. For arrival delays, compensation is set at 50 SDR for a delay of three to six hours and 150 SDR for a delay exceeding six hours, with the equivalent amount in Saudi Riyal varying

How to file a complaint

Passengers should first raise any issue directly with their airline. If the matter remains unresolved, complaints can be submitted through the passenger-care channel of the General Authority of Civil Aviation.

With Jeddah serving as a major gateway for residents, expats, and pilgrims, understanding these rights helps travelers respond calmly and claim what they are entitled to during periods of disruption. Passengers are encouraged to keep their booking details and any communication from the airline to support their claims.
