License Plate Auction Opens Sunday via Absher

The General Directorate of Traffic is launching an electronic auction for special license plates through the أبشر Individuals platform, with bidding set to begin Sunday and continue until Monday, 10 August 2026. Participation is available online only, giving residents across the Kingdom the chance to bid on distinctive plate combinations from home.

To take part, users log in to أبشر with an activated digital ID, then head to “My Services,” select “Traffic,” and open the Electronic License Plate Auction. Bidders can choose from Private, Private Transport, or Motorcycle plate types, browse available options, enter their bid, and confirm submission.

Requirements for 2026 include an active أبشر account linked to a national ID or iqama and a registered mobile number, plus an activated digital ID. Participants must pay a refundable deposit before bidding, as no bids are accepted without it. The minimum bid increment in the electronic auction is 500 ريال سعودي.

Payment and collection

Winners are required to pay the full plate price within five days of winning the auction, with payment completed electronically through the government channels linked to أبشر. Once payment and procedures are finalized, the plate is collected in person from the Traffic Department office.

The auctions typically feature sought-after patterns such as repeated letters and numbers — combinations like 911, 6666, 1111 or 6668 for private cars, and shorter or repeated codes for commercial and motorcycle plates. Starting bids and required deposits are structured by plate tier, with the most prestigious combinations often reaching high five- or six-figure amounts in ريال سعودي. The exact tier details are displayed when each plate batch opens for bidding.

The fully online process reflects the continued shift of government services to digital platforms, saving residents time and making distinctive plates more accessible to a wider pool of bidders.
