Mecca Metro Design Tender Bids Due 14 October 2026

The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites has set 14 October 2026 as the deadline for firms to submit bids on the initial design studies for the long-planned Mecca metro network. The tender is part of a broader SR 62 billion (about US$16.5 billion) program currently in its feasibility and detailed design phase.

the Mecca metro is envisaged as a four-line network (Lines A–D) with 89 stations and three depots, to be delivered across three phases between 2032 and 2045. Preliminary design work for parts of the network, including Lines B and C, was already completed in earlier stages.

The scope of the current tender covers a review of existing studies, preparation of a concept design, land acquisition studies, development of an integration concept for future phases, and related supporting studies. The focus is on updated feasibility and concept design for the full network.

The design studies tender was first issued in May 2026 with an original submission deadline of 5 August 2026, which was later extended to 14 October 2026. Participation is handled through Saudi government procurement channels via the national unified procurement platform. Interested consultants and engineering firms must register on the system, select the specific competition, purchase and download the request for proposal documents, and submit their technical and financial bids electronically before 23:59 local time on the deadline.

Why it matters

Once complete, the network is expected to ease movement for residents, visitors, and pilgrims across Mecca and the holy sites. This tender is project-related and does not involve individual services for residents; platforms such as أبشر, مقيم, قوى, ناجز, نفاذ and توكلنا are not used for entering this design competition.
