Prince Rakan bin Salman Named Governor of Diriyah

Prince Rakan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has been appointed Governor of Diriyah Governorate under a royal order issued on 12 February 2026. He assumes the post at excellent (ministerial) rank.

The appointment succeeds Prince Fahd bin Saad bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Saud, who previously held the position of Governor of Diriyah.

Diriyah holds a distinctive place in the Kingdom as the historic seat of the Saudi state and one of its most significant heritage and cultural destinations. The governorate has been the focus of major development in recent years, drawing residents, visitors, and investors alike.

Why it matters

Leadership at governorate level plays a direct role in overseeing local administration, services, and coordination across an area experiencing rapid growth. For residents and expatriates living in and around the region, the appointment marks continuity in the management of one of the country's most closely watched heritage and tourism zones.

Diriyah continues to feature prominently among the destinations shaping the Kingdom's cultural and tourism landscape, and the new leadership takes over at a time of ongoing expansion and rising local and international interest.
