The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia carried out a ministerial reshuffle on 11 July 2026, with Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman appointed minister of industry and mineral resources while retaining his role as minister of energy.
Under the change, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman now holds both portfolios, serving as minister of energy and minister of industry and mineral resources.
As part of the same reshuffle, Bandar Alkhorayef was relieved of the industry and mineral resources portfolio. He was appointed minister of state and assigned duties related to the General Authority for Military Industries.
Why it matters
The energy, industry, and mineral resources sectors are central pillars of the Kingdom's economic diversification efforts. Combining both portfolios under one minister brings the energy and industrial files under closer coordination, which can affect long-term planning across manufacturing, mining, and related activities.
For residents and businesses across Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and beyond, these sectors influence employment, investment, and industrial development. The reassignment of duties tied to the General Authority for Military Industries also underscores continued attention to the country's growing industrial base.
