A royal order issued on 11 July 2026 appointed Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz as Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, while he continues to serve as Minister of Energy. The move brings the leadership of two key economic ministries under a single figure.
The same royal order relieved Bandar Alkhorayef of his post as Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, a role he had held since 30 August 2019. Following the reshuffle, Alkhorayef was named minister of state and assigned responsibilities related to the General Authority for Military Industries.
Officials have since described Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman as Minister of Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources in both domestic communications and international statements, confirming that he continues to hold both portfolios as of September 2026.
Institutionally, the two ministries remain separate, but their leadership is now unified under one minister. No further changes to this dual-ministry arrangement have been announced by Saudi authorities as of September 2026.
Why it matters
The energy and industry sectors are central pillars of the Kingdom's economic diversification efforts. Combining leadership of both ministries points to closer coordination between the two portfolios, which touch on jobs, manufacturing, mining, and investment — areas that affect residents, businesses, and the wider community across the country.
