Salman bin Yousef Al-Dossary continues to serve as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Minister of Media, a role he has held since 5 March 2023 after his appointment by royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
The appointment came as part of a broader set of leadership changes across key government bodies. These included the appointment of Lt. Gen. Muhammad Al-Harbi as Deputy Chief of General Intelligence, Ibrahim Al-Sultan as Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers, and Humoud Al-Muraikhi as Advisor at the Royal Court with the rank of minister. Rakan Al-Tauq was named Assistant Minister of Culture, while Ismail Al-Ghamdi was appointed Assistant Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for joint services in the excellent ranks.
Born in 1968 in Al-Khobar, Eastern Province, Al-Dossary holds a bachelor's degree in management and economics. Before joining the government, he built a long career in Arabic media, serving as editor-in-chief of Asharq Al-Awsat between 2014 and 2016, in addition to leading Al-Eqtisadiah business daily, Arrajol magazine, and The Majalla magazine.
Why it matters
As Minister of Media, Al-Dossary participates in Cabinet sessions and issues official statements on government positions, attends national events and press conferences, and takes part in major technology gatherings such as LEAP 2026. His office oversees efforts to develop the Saudi media sector in line with رؤية السعودية 2030, including programs focused on artificial intelligence, augmented journalism, intelligent content production, and virtual presenters.
At the Saudi Media Forum in 2026, the ministry launched 12 initiatives, among them the Saudi Media Innovation Camp for AI-focused media innovation, the Tamkeen program to back media entrepreneurs and startups, and the Numuw initiative to turn media concepts into sustainable, investment-ready business models. A Saudipedia translation track was also introduced, offering content in five languages: English, French, Chinese, Russian, and German, to broaden the Kingdom's reach among international audiences.
