Saudi Arabia's holdings of US Treasury securities stood at about 142.4 billion US dollars in July 2026, a level near a four-year high,
The Kingdom's portfolio grew by roughly 10.7 billion US dollars compared with July 2025, an annual increase of about 8 percent. The month-on-month change was small: official data show holdings around 142.4 to 142.5 billion US dollars, effectively flat versus June, while some market readings point to a modest rise of about 2.4 billion US dollars to roughly 142.7 billion, reflecting differences in aggregation and rounding.
As of mid-September 2026, Saudi Arabia remains around the 17th-largest foreign holder of US Treasury securities in the world. The composition leans heavily toward longer maturities: roughly 76 to 78 percent of the total, or about 108 to 111 billion US dollars, is held in long-term securities, while short-term instruments account for the remaining 22 to 24 percent, or around 31 to 34 billion US dollars.
Why it matters
Treasury holdings are part of how the Kingdom manages its sovereign and institutional reserves, providing a stable, liquid store of value that supports the broader economy. A steady increase signals continued diversification and prudent asset management as Saudi Arabia advances its long-term economic goals.
For residents and businesses, these are not retail products. There are no consumer fees, application steps, or validity periods tied to holding US Treasuries, and they are not administered through everyday government platforms. The figures instead offer a snapshot of the country's financial position on the global stage.
