Saudi Reserves Near SAR 1.83 Trillion in August 2026

Saudi Arabia's official foreign reserve assets stood at about SAR 1.83 trillion at the end of August 2026, easing roughly SAR 5 billion, or 0.3%, from July while remaining well above year-earlier levels,

On a broader measure, official reserve assets reached about SAR 1.827 trillion (around USD 487.3 billion), up about 6.7% year-on-year from roughly SAR 1.712 trillion in August 2025, but down about 0.27% from July's SAR 1.832 trillion. Net foreign assets rose about 7% over the year, an increase of roughly SAR 115 billion compared with August 2025.

Foreign currency reserves, which make up around 95% of total reserve assets, came in at about SAR 1.73 trillion, up roughly 7% from about SAR 1.62 trillion a year earlier. The reserve position at the IMF was about SAR 13.34 billion (around USD 3.56 billion), up about 1.4% year-on-year, while monetary gold held steady at about SAR 1.624 billion (around USD 433 million).

Why it matters

Reserve assets are made up of investments in foreign securities, foreign cash and deposits, the reserve position at the IMF, Special Drawing Rights, and monetary gold. They act as a financial buffer that supports the stability of the Saudi Riyal and the wider economy — a point of reassurance for residents and businesses across the Kingdom.

The 2026 trend shows strong year-on-year growth through mid-year, with reserves near SAR 1.85 trillion by the end of the second quarter, followed by slight month-on-month declines in July and August that still left balances higher than in 2025.
