Qatif Almonds Boost Local Markets This Season

Local markets in Qatif are witnessing a noticeable boost this August harvest season as seasonal locally grown almonds arrive in central markets and fruit and vegetable shops across the governorate. Shoppers are turning out in strong numbers, driving up sales of seasonal produce.

Qatif is known for producing almonds in several varieties and colors, including red, green, yellow, and purple, sold under the local “Al-Qatif almonds” label alongside Bahraini, Emirati, and Indian varieties. The seasonal almonds sit among other popular items on the shelves, such as figs, lemons, pomegranates, berries, and dates.

A dedicated Farmers’ Market in Qatif, organized at the Al-Rams project area, is running as a temporary event with around 60 outlets, open daily from 16:00 to 22:00 for 11 days. The stalls offer local fruits, vegetables, honey, dates, dairy, and processed products, with seasonal almonds among the produce on show. The market is supervised in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the Qatif Municipality, as part of efforts to support local agriculture and national production.

Locally grown Qatif almonds are sold by the kilogram, with retail prices typically ranging between 20 and 35 SAR That places them well below many imported premium almond products, which nationally can reach around 52 SAR

The seasonal supply reflects the agricultural strength of the Qatif Oasis, which feeds markets across the Eastern Province from Al-Khafji to Al-Ahsa. The governorate is home to more than 2,000 farms and over 250,000 palm trees, producing roughly 8,000 tonnes of dates annually alongside other crops. For residents, the season means fresh, affordable local produce and a welcome boost for the area’s farmers.
