A new art exhibition titled Along the Way is set to open in Riyadh on 16 September 2026 at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall, running until 31 March 2027. Organized by the Misk Art Institute, the show is inspired by the historic travels of Ibn Battuta and invites visitors to explore journeys through space, memory, and experience. Admission is free.
The exhibition brings together works by 34 artists from Saudi Arabia and around the world, spanning paintings, sculptures, installation art, and photography. It examines travel as a transformative path toward knowledge and self-discovery, while touching on themes of maps, wayfinding, memory, and humanity's connection to nature.
Alongside the contemporary artworks, the show features rare historical manuscripts. These include The Book of Fixed Stars by Al-Sufi and Nuzhat al-Qulub by Al-Qazwini, which contains a circular world map, as well as an engraved brass astronomical disc from Persia that highlights early Islamic contributions to navigation and astronomy.
For the community in Riyadh, the exhibition offers a rare chance to see historic scientific treasures displayed alongside modern art, free of charge and open to the public. There is no requirement for prior online booking. Visitors are advised to check the Misk Art Institute exhibition page for the latest schedule, then travel to the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall during its public opening hours and enter directly.
With its blend of heritage, science, and contemporary creativity, Along the Way adds to Riyadh's growing calendar of cultural offerings for residents and visitors alike over its months-long run.
