Riyadh Bus and Metro Now Fully Integrated Network

The King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport has reported new milestones in linking Riyadh Bus and Riyadh Metro into a single, integrated network managed by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. The system is designed so buses feed into and connect with metro stations across the capital.

The Riyadh Bus main network is now complete, running 54 routes with 679 buses serving 2,145 stations and stops. The wider integrated network has expanded to around 80 bus routes with roughly 2,900 stops, with routes structured as feeder and trunk lines that connect directly to metro stations at major hubs.

The bus rollout came in phases. It began in March 2023 with 15 routes, 340 buses and 633 stops, then grew through additional phases that introduced dedicated lanes and new routes serving neighborhoods such as Al Yasmeen, Al Taawun, Al Rawda, Al Nahda, Al Shuhada, Al Munsiyah and Al Yarmouk. The main network reached full service in December 2023.

On the rail side, the metro was built as six lines covering about 176 km with 85 stations, designed from the start to integrate with buses. By early 2025 all six lines entered full service, enabling complete bus–metro interchange, with buses scheduled to match metro frequencies at key hubs for smoother last-mile travel.

What it means for riders

A standard single trip on Riyadh Bus starts from 4 SAR and is valid for two hours from first check-in, allowing transfers within that window. Children up to six years old travel free, and a 50% discount applies to eligible groups including seniors, students and cancer patients. For residents and expats across Riyadh, the integrated network offers a lower-cost, connected way to move between residential districts, commercial clusters and metro stations.
