Riyadh Municipality is expanding the use of body-worn cameras for its inspectors during regulatory visits to establishments across the capital. The cameras record inspection visits in both audio and video, giving the municipality a clearer record of how field checks are carried out.
The wider rollout follows a three-week proof-of-concept trial, during which more than 600 inspection visits were documented. The results supported the decision to broaden the use of the devices during routine inspections.
Why it matters
The recordings are intended to help review inspection procedures, observations, complaints, and objections. By capturing visits as they happen, the municipality can verify how each inspection was conducted and provide a reliable reference when a visit is later questioned.
For business owners and the wider community, the move adds transparency to the inspection process. A documented record can protect both inspectors and establishments by showing exactly what took place during a visit, reducing disputes over observations or outcomes.
No fee, application, validity period, or payment step was announced for establishments in connection with the initiative, and no separate online procedure was linked to it. The municipality did not provide an end date or a separate schedule for the expanded use of the cameras.
