The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has begun the fourth phase of the Riyadh Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, a set of projects valued at SAR 9.8 billion aimed at easing congestion on key corridors across the capital.
The fourth phase includes four road projects spanning about 40 kilometres, designed to serve more than 950,000 vehicles The works cover 14 major intersections, 33 bridges, 5 tunnels and 6 pedestrian bridges, along with 14 main lanes and 9 secondary lanes.
The four road projects
The southern section of Sheikh Jaber Al Sabah Road stretches about 12 km and includes 6 main intersections, 22 bridges and 3 tunnels, with a target daily capacity of 350,000 vehicles. The central section of Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Awwal Road covers about 9 km with 3 intersections, 6 bridges and 2 tunnels, aiming for 200,000 vehicles daily.
Prince Mishal bin Abdulaziz Road runs about 6 km with 2 intersections, 2 bridges and 4 pedestrian bridges, also targeting 200,000 vehicles daily. The western section of Najm Ad-Din Al-Ayyubi Road extends about 13 km with 3 intersections, 3 bridges and 2 pedestrian bridges, likewise designed for 200,000 vehicles
The wider program aims to upgrade roughly 500 km of Riyadh's roads across multiple phases that began in 2019 and continue through the mid-2020s. These are public infrastructure works funded from government budget allocations, with no tolls or user fees announced for motorists on these corridors.
For residents and commuters, the phase promises smoother traffic flow and shorter journey times on some of Riyadh's busiest routes. Public inquiries can be directed to the unified call center on 19998.
