Riyadh Road and Drainage Projects Stay on Schedule

Major infrastructure projects across Riyadh are moving ahead on schedule, with new road and stormwater-drainage works aimed at easing traffic and improving the city's resilience against heavy rainfall.

In June 2026, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City launched a road-development package worth SAR 9.8 billion. The package covers 40 km of major corridors, 14 intersections, 33 bridges, five tunnels, and six pedestrian bridges. Among the roads included are Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Road, Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Awwal Road, Prince Mishal bin Abdulaziz Road, and Najmuddin Al-Ayoubi Road.

A separate package valued at SAR 8.1 billion covers 61 km of roads, 32 bridges, and six tunnels, with completion planned within four years. Together, the two packages represent a substantial investment in the capital's road network.

Stormwater protection

On the drainage side, Riyadh Municipality has completed more than 66 km of stormwater-drainage networks in the Al-Munsiyah and Al-Rimal districts. Additional stormwater projects are underway at 25 critical locations across the city.

For residents, the works promise smoother commutes, better connectivity between neighborhoods, and reduced flooding risk during the rainy season. The projects support the capital's long-term growth as its population continues to expand.
