200 km of Stormwater Drainage Completed in H1 2026

Saudi Arabia completed approximately 200.3 kilometers of stormwater drainage networks across several cities and regions during the first half of 2026, part of a nationwide effort to strengthen infrastructure against heavy rainfall and flooding. The work was carried out by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing.

The completed networks included more than 115 kilometers of main lines and roughly 85 kilometers of secondary networks. The average completion rate exceeded one kilometer

Beyond the drainage lines, the works also delivered more than 10.2 kilometers of box culverts, approximately 4.9 kilometers of stormwater and flood channels, and 24 retaining walls. In total, more than 87,500 cubic meters of reinforced concrete were used across the projects.

Why it matters

Stormwater drainage is a key concern for residents in cities across the Kingdom, where sudden heavy rain can lead to flooding on roads and in neighborhoods. Expanding and upgrading these networks helps reduce disruption, protect property, and improve safety for both residents and expats during the rainy season.

The announcement is an infrastructure-completion update and does not involve any fees, applications, or online procedures for the public. A full city-by-city breakdown and completion dates for individual locations were not provided.
