Riyadh Issues Over 141,000 Infrastructure Permits in 2026

Riyadh's Infrastructure Projects Center has issued more than 141,000 permits for infrastructure work across the city between January and September 2026, reflecting the pace of development activity taking place in the capital.

more than 19,000 permits were issued in August 2026 alone, while about 10,100 permits were active and under execution during that same month.

The projects carried out in August involved road occupation covering approximately 1,133 kilometres, indicating the scale of works affecting streets and public spaces across the city.

Why it matters

The high volume of permits points to ongoing upgrades to roads, utilities, and public networks that residents rely on daily. For drivers and commuters, the extent of road occupation helps explain temporary closures and detours seen in various neighbourhoods, and highlights the coordination needed to keep the city moving while work continues.

These infrastructure-work permits are separate from building permits, which are issued through Balady. Details such as exact fees, application steps, and validity periods for the infrastructure permits were not specified.
