Riyadh POS Spending Hits SAR 4.66 Billion in a Week

Consumers in Riyadh spent SAR 4.66 billion through point-of-sale (POS) terminals during the week of 13–19 September 2026, cementing the capital's position as the country's largest hub for card-based retail activity.

The figure accounted for around 36.1% of Saudi Arabia's total POS transaction value for the week, which stood at approximately SAR 12.92 billion. Across the capital, shoppers completed roughly 81.33 million individual transactions during the seven-day period.

Compared with the previous week, Riyadh's POS spending value dipped by 4.3%, a modest decline that still leaves the city well ahead of other regions in overall card-based purchases.

Why it matters

Point-of-sale figures track payments made with cards at physical and digital checkout terminals, offering a useful snapshot of everyday consumer activity across retail, dining, and services. They do not include government-service fees, venue admission prices, or commercial licensing charges.

For residents and business owners in Riyadh, weekly POS data reflects the pace of local spending and the wider shift toward cashless payments in the Kingdom. Sustained high volumes point to strong retail momentum in the capital, while week-to-week movements offer an early read on shifting consumer habits.
