Saudi Arabia Steps Up Efforts to Attract Chinese Tourists

The Saudi Tourism Authority carried out a promotional visit to China from 21 to 24 September 2026 aimed at attracting more Chinese tourists and improving access to the Kingdom's destinations, seasons, and events. The move builds on strong momentum, with Chinese visitor numbers to Saudi Arabia rising by 48% in 2025.

As part of its efforts, Saudi Arabia has developed 10 tourism destinations specifically prepared to welcome Chinese travelers, supported by more than 30 destination-management companies that provide tailored services. New measures also include partnerships covering travel, technology, payments, and distribution to make the experience smoother for visitors from China.

A key milestone came in July 2024, when Saudi Arabia received Approved Destination Status from China. This status allows organized Chinese tour groups to visit the Kingdom, opening the door to a significant new stream of travelers.

How Chinese travelers can visit

Eligible Chinese passport holders can apply for the Saudi tourist eVisa through the official Saudi visa portal. The tourist eVisa is generally multiple-entry, valid for one year, and permits stays of up to 90 days. Permitted purposes include tourism, attending events, visiting relatives, and performing Umrah, but it does not permit Hajj.

For residents and expats across Riyadh, Jeddah, and other cities, growing tourism ties with China are expected to bring more international visitors, boost local hospitality and retail activity, and support wider economic diversification goals. As arrivals rise, businesses in travel, dining, and services stand to benefit from a broader base of global guests.
