Trading on the Saudi Exchange resumed on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, after a brief temporary suspension caused by an unexpected technical issue. The market restarted the same day with an opening auction at 10:15 a.m., followed by normal continuous trading from 10:30 a.m.
The suspension lasted for several minutes before activity returned to normal. All market functions and systems were reported to be operating as expected after the resumption, with the integrity of systems and operational processes confirmed.
The halt and restart applied to trading across the market, covering listed equities and other traded instruments under its operations. The opening auction and the move to continuous trading followed the same price discovery and order-matching mechanisms used on regular trading days.
The Saudi Exchange said it continues to take all necessary measures to ensure market efficiency and safeguard the interests of participants. The brief technical halt did not affect the validity of existing listings, securities, or investors' accounts, and normal regulatory timelines continued to apply after the resumption. No changes to standard trading fees, commission rates in SAR, or listing fees were announced in connection with the event.
Why it matters
For investors and traders in the Kingdom, the quick recovery underscores the resilience of the market's own infrastructure. The event was handled entirely through the exchange's official channels, and normal market activity was restored within the same session.
Separately, earlier in August 2026 the Saudi Exchange had announced a one-day suspension of trading in certain companies' shares on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, for failure to disclose financial statements. Trading in those shares was set to resume for 20 sessions starting Thursday, 13 August 2026, with possible re-suspension from 10 September 2026 if disclosure obligations were not met.
