Saudi Arabia recorded a sharp rise in project awards during the second quarter of 2026, with the total reaching about SAR 116.6 billion (roughly USD 30 billion), up around 55% compared with the same period a year earlier when awards stood at nearly SAR 75.2 billion.
The figures confirm the kingdom as the largest projects market in the GCC during the quarter, and the only country in the region where total awards grew both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year. Compared with the first quarter of 2026, awards jumped by about 160%, rising from roughly USD 11.5 billion to USD 30 billion.
Construction and gas lead the growth
Construction-related awards reached about USD 14.2 billion in Q2 2026, an increase of nearly 184% from around USD 5.0 billion a year earlier. Gas-sector awards climbed to about USD 4.4 billion, more than five times the roughly USD 0.8 billion recorded in the same quarter of 2025.
Over the first six months of 2026, building contractor awards totalled about USD 32 billion, up from around USD 17 billion in the first half of 2025, while infrastructure awards reached about USD 7 billion, nearly double the prior year. Between January and July 2026, tracked awards covered 97 projects worth around SAR 111.3 billion.
Momentum built steadily through the year. March 2026 saw about SAR 15.6 billion in awards, a month-on-month jump of around 458%. May recorded roughly SAR 30.0 billion across 18 projects, while June reached about SAR 29.5 billion across 25 projects, the busiest month of the year so far.
For residents and workers across Riyadh, Jeddah and beyond, the surge points to continued activity in construction, infrastructure and energy — sectors that support jobs, contracts and long-term economic growth aligned with رؤية السعودية 2030.
