Saudi Arabia's renewable-energy ambitions moved forward in 2026 as the national project pipeline reached 63.8 gigawatts spread across 53 projects, covering solar and wind developments in regions nationwide.
Of that total portfolio, around 19.3 gigawatts of capacity was projected to be operating during 2026. Eight projects with a combined capacity of 7.7 gigawatts were scheduled for commissioning within the year, adding significant new clean-energy supply to the grid.
Key developments across the Kingdom include the Henakiyah 2 solar plant (400 megawatts) in the Madinah region and the Rabigh 2 solar plant (300 megawatts) in the Makkah region, both under development. In wind power, the Alghat project (600 megawatts) in the Riyadh region appeared with installed status in the 2026 tracker, while the Waad Al Shammal wind project (500 megawatts) is located in the Northern Borders region. The Tabarjal solar plant (400 megawatts) is planned for the Al-Jouf region.
Why it matters
The tracked portfolio was roughly 30% installed, 37% under development, and 32% tendered, showing a steady pace from planning to construction. For residents and businesses, the expansion supports cleaner electricity, diversified power sources, and the broader goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to reshape the Kingdom's energy mix.
As more solar and wind capacity comes online, the growing pipeline signals continued investment across multiple regions and new opportunities tied to the renewable-energy sector.
