Saudi Arabia's main stock market index closed higher, extending a short-term upward trend in listed companies' prices. The Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) ended the session at around 10,954.46 points, up 28.77 points, or 0.26%, holding near the 10,950 level.
Activity on the main market was steady during the day, with total transaction value reaching about SAR 5.0 billion and roughly 261 million shares changing hands. Over the past month, the index has risen by around 2% to 2.5%, and it is up roughly 0.8% to 1.2% compared with a year ago, pointing to a moderate recovery from earlier levels.
How the market works
The Saudi Exchange main market trades from Sunday to Thursday, with continuous trading running from about 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Riyadh time, followed by closing auction mechanisms. Equity trades settle on a T+2 basis, meaning two business days after the transaction date. All prices and settlements are handled in Saudi riyals.
For residents, trading is done through licensed local brokerage firms and banks connected to the exchange. Investors need an investment account, a National ID or Iqama, and a local bank account. Onboarding and identity checks are typically completed through national digital ID and e-KYC, often linked with government digital services such as أبشر and نفاذ for authentication.
Foreign investors can access the market through the Qualified Foreign Investor (QFI) regime, swap agreements, or Saudi-focused ETFs listed on the exchange. QFIs must meet minimum asset and regulatory requirements, with approvals handled through authorized custodians and brokers. Trading costs remain modest for retail investors, with total round-trip brokerage and clearing fees typically a fraction of 1% of trade value.
