The General Directorate of Traffic has announced plans to establish six new driving schools across six regions and metropolitan areas: Asir, Jazan, the Dammam Metropolitan Area, Hail, Makkah, and Al-Jouf. The move aims to expand access to accredited driver training as demand for licensing services continues to grow.
At this stage the announcement concerns the establishment of the schools only. Specific school names, addresses, opening dates, operating hours, enrollment dates, and any local fees have not yet been published. Interested companies and institutions were invited to obtain the project requirements from the Traffic Licenses Department by email and to submit applications within one month of the announcement.
What applicants should know about fees
Published driving-school enrollment fees remain unchanged. A regular private-license course costs SAR 435. A public-license course is SAR 435 for qualifying company or establishment employees, or for holders of a valid private license held for at least two years, and SAR 560 for other applicants. A private-license affiliation or part-time course costs SAR 100. These are course-enrollment fees only; additional medical, testing, issuance, or school-specific charges may apply.
The general process is to register with an approved driving school, complete the required assessment and training, pass the theory and practical tests, pay government fees through bank payment channels, and complete any required medical checks. Applicants then use أبشر by selecting My Services → Traffic → Driving Licenses to choose an available appointment or issuance service. The issuance service is listed as free on أبشر, excluding government license fees, training, medical examination, and testing charges.
The announcement did not introduce any new license validity period or fee change. For residents and expats, the additional schools are expected to shorten waiting times and make it easier to complete training closer to home once the facilities open.
