Update Your National ID Photo Online via Absher

Saudi citizens can now update the photo on their national ID card online without visiting a Civil Affairs office. The service launched in 2026 as part of Civil Affairs e-services on the أبشر Individuals platform, and is available exclusively to Saudi citizens for the national ID card. Residents have a separate service for updating the photo on their مقيم/iqama ID.

To use it, log in to the أبشر Individuals app or web portal using your credentials, then confirm your identity through نفاذ. From there, go to My Services, then Civil Affairs, then National ID Services, and select the option to update the national ID photo. After reading and accepting the terms, upload a compliant personal photo and submit the request.

The system runs an automatic check comparing the uploaded photo against Civil Affairs specifications and biometric records, showing a specific error message if any requirement is not met. Once confirmed, the new photo is stored in the national ID record and appears on the next issued or reissued card.

Photo requirements

The photo must be recent and in color, taken within the last six months, with a white background, even lighting and no shadows. The face must be fully visible and front-facing with a neutral expression and open eyes. Filters, digital beautification or editing are not allowed, and dark or reflective glasses and face coverings are prohibited. For men, the head should be uncovered except for an approved religious head covering where permitted. The image should be in JPEG format and typically no larger than 1 MB.

A new photo can also be added while requesting a National ID Renewal or a replacement for a lost or damaged ID, by uploading it during the request steps. The move gives citizens a faster, fully digital way to keep their ID photo up to date.
