A video circulating online that claims to show a recent fire at oil facilities in Yanbu has been debunked as false. The footage is miscaptioned and actually shows an industrial fire that took place at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai in July 2021.
The original incident was caused by an explosion in a container aboard a ship at the port. The blaze was quickly brought under control at the time, and no injuries were reported. The clip has no connection to Saudi Arabia or to any 2026 event.
Fact-checking of the material confirms it does not depict a Houthi attack, nor does it show any damage to oil facilities in Yanbu. Saudi-focused verification indicates that Yanbu's oil facilities, including the YASREF refinery, remain fully operational. The images being shared as evidence of a recent incident have been identified as either fabricated or drawn from older, non-Saudi events.
Why this matters
Miscaptioned videos of unrelated incidents spread quickly during moments of uncertainty and can cause needless alarm among residents and expats. Because the visuals are dramatic, they are often reshared without checking the original date or location.
Residents in Riyadh, Jeddah and elsewhere are encouraged to pause before forwarding alarming clips, to check whether the footage matches the claimed date and place, and to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed social media posts. Sharing accurate, checked content helps keep the community informed and calm.
