Al Nassr Cleared to Register New Signings

Al Nassr have completed the procedures needed to lift the tightest phase of financial monitoring, clearing the way to register new signings for the 2026-27 Saudi Pro League season. The move came in early August 2026, after the club addressed liabilities that had exceeded SR 800 million in mid-2026.

The club's total debts had earlier triggered strict financial monitoring under the Saudi football financial control framework, freezing transfers and registrations. Under those controls, Al Nassr could not register new players or coaches unless deals were fully funded from the club's own sponsorship, commercial revenue, and player sales, rather than fresh owner subsidies. Management spending and contracting authority were also limited, with major financial decisions requiring prior approval, and the club was required to appoint financial, commercial, and legal advisers to improve revenue and restore balance.

To lift the restrictions, Al Nassr submitted detailed schedules of outstanding financial commitments and evidence that existing debts could be serviced without breaching league rules. The club also presented financial guarantees showing that funds for new contracts — transfer fees, wages, and bonuses — were fully covered over the length of each deal, and obtained a financial compliance certificate confirming it meets the league's spending and sustainability criteria.

With oversight eased, the club became eligible to register new players, allowing deals such as the move for Samu Costa to be processed as its first signing of the summer window.

The current regulatory position remains conditional: Al Nassr may sign and register players only if each transaction is backed by documented revenue and guarantees and stays within the spending envelope approved by the league's financial oversight committee. The presence of large outstanding debts does not automatically bar registration; what matters is proof of the club's ability to meet its obligations.
