Launched on 20 August 2026 in time with World Photography Day (19 August), a new photography initiative in the AlUla region is putting the destination's natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and historic sites in the spotlight through the lens of selected professional photographers.
The 2026 edition features the work of eight professional photographers who capture AlUla from different locations, times of day, and perspectives. Their images focus on key landmarks including Hegra (Mada'in Salih), Jabal Ikmah, AlUla Old Town, and the surrounding desert and rock formations.
The project is presented as a showcase, exhibition-style effort rather than a public paid workshop or an open registration program. As of 21 August 2026, no participation fee, booking price, or permit charge has been published for this professional-photographer initiative, and it is not run as a general public competition.
Part of AlUla's Heritage Promotion
The initiative forms part of AlUla's broader destination-marketing and heritage-promotion programs under the Royal Commission for AlUla. Curated professional imagery from the project is intended for official galleries, campaigns, and exhibitions.
Professionals and media seeking to use or access AlUla imagery can turn to the RCU Media Gallery, which offers curated official photos and videos of the region's landscapes and heritage sites through the commission's media resources portal.
For residents and visitors, the initiative offers another window into one of the Kingdom's most striking heritage destinations, reinforcing AlUla's growing profile as a cultural and tourism landmark. Earlier AlUla photography programs, such as local contests and photo walks, followed a different format and are separate from this year's professional-photographer initiative.
