Riyadh Airport Launches Silent Airport at Terminal 5

King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has begun rolling out its new Silent Airport project at International Terminal 5, aiming to create a quieter and more comfortable travel environment. The first phase started in mid-August 2026 and is being applied gradually.

Under the project, general public announcements inside Terminal 5 are significantly reduced and now limited to departure gates when needed — mainly for time-critical information that requires passengers’ immediate attention. Routine flight updates and travel information have been shifted to digital channels instead.

Where to check your flight information

Passengers in Terminal 5 can follow their flights through digital flight information display screens throughout the terminal, the airport’s official website at KKIA.SA, and its WhatsApp service on +966 920020090 for real-time updates. Physical signage and guidance boards are also available, along with the on-site “Ask Me” customer service team to assist travelers.

The goal is to reduce background noise and give passengers a calmer experience, while making them responsible for actively checking digital channels for the latest flight details. There are no additional fees for using the screens, WhatsApp service, or any of the digital channels.

The rollout is gradual, with future phases and any expansion beyond Terminal 5 to be announced later. As of August 2026, the Silent Airport system applies to Terminal 5 only. Under the airport’s current terminal plan, Terminal 5 serves international flights operated by foreign airlines, Terminals 3 and 4 handle domestic flights, and Terminals 1 and 2 serve international flights by national carriers.

For travelers using Terminal 5, the practical takeaway is simple: arrive prepared to check screens and digital channels regularly, and don’t rely on hearing your flight called over the speakers.
