Arab Sailing Championship Optimist Class Ends in Jeddah

The 2026 Arab Sailing Championship for the Optimist class has concluded in Jeddah, after fleet races on September 21 crowned the individual champions of the competition. The event was held at the Jeddah Sailing Center along the South Abhur coast and ran from September 17 to 21, 2026.

Around 90 young sailors aged between 8 and 15, representing 13 Arab countries, took part in the championship. The program combined registration and equipment inspection with a practice race, team racing, fleet racing, and a closing awards ceremony.

The fleet races served as the decisive stage for the individual standings, determining the Optimist-class champions before the tournament came to a close. The Optimist class is widely used to introduce young sailors to competitive racing and to develop their skills in a controlled, safe format.

Hosting the championship in Jeddah reflects the city's growing role as a venue for regional sporting events and its coastline's suitability for water sports. Events of this kind offer local families and young athletes in the community a chance to follow high-level competition close to home and to see youth sailing gain wider attention across the region.
