Work is advancing on a cluster of major culture and entertainment projects in historic Diriyah, on the north-west edge of Riyadh. As of August 2026, the Royal Diriyah Opera House, the Diriyah Arena, and a new Formula 1-standard circuit remain under construction and are not yet open to the public.
The Royal Diriyah Opera House sits near the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by Snøhetta, it spans about 46,000 m² and will host roughly 3,500 spectators across four venues: a 2,000-seat main theatre, two smaller theatres of around 450 seats each, and a 450-seat rooftop amphitheatre. Its main development contract, valued at about SAR 5.1 billion, was awarded in April 2025. Physical completion was reported at nearly 20% by March 2026, with opening targeted for 2028.
The Diriyah Arena is planned as a multi-purpose indoor venue for concerts, esports, exhibitions and sports, seating about 20,000 with a floor area of around 76,000 m². Its construction contract, worth roughly SAR 5.75 billion, was awarded to China Harbour Engineering and includes over 4,000 parking spaces plus adjacent mixed-use offices. Physical completion passed 23% by March 2026, with core construction indicated for 2026.
A new permanent Formula 1-standard race track is also planned within the Diriyah redevelopment as part of wider sports and entertainment investment. It is not yet operational as a ticketed venue in 2026, and detailed specifications and hosting dates have not been confirmed.
For residents in Riyadh, these projects signal a growing range of future cultural and entertainment options close to home. No ticket prices, booking channels, or operating hours have been published yet for any of the venues, and public programming and membership details are not yet officially announced.
