Residents across the Riyadh region should prepare for a dusty and windy Friday, as an early weather warning has been issued for 21 August 2026. The alert, set at the orange level, covers Riyadh city and surrounding governorates and remains in effect from the morning through to the evening on the same day.
Forecasters expect raised dust driven by strong, active winds, with the most intense conditions falling within daytime hours — typically between around 09:00 and 17:00–19:00. The blowing dust is expected to significantly reduce horizontal visibility, dropping to the 1–3 km range in many areas and, at times, to near-zero along certain road sections and in open spaces.
In Riyadh city, the day is forecast to be windy with blowing dust, high temperatures reaching about 43°C and low humidity near 20%. The alert extends to broader Ar Riyadh governorate, including Ad Diriyah and neighbouring areas.
What this means for the community
Reduced visibility on major roads and highways raises the risk for drivers, so motorists are advised to slow down, keep a safe distance and use headlights when needed. Those with respiratory conditions may wish to limit time outdoors while the dust is at its peak, and outdoor activities may be affected during the strongest hours.
Weather conditions can change quickly, and alert levels, timings and affected areas are updated through official meteorological channels. Residents are encouraged to check for the latest updates before travelling and to take simple precautions to protect their health and safety throughout the day.
