Esports Nations Cup in Riyadh Postponed to 2027

The inaugural edition of the Esports Nations Cup, a flagship international tournament set to be hosted in Riyadh, has been officially postponed from November 2026 to November 2027. Organizers say the Kingdom's capital remains the host city and the overall concept of the event is unchanged.

The postponement is formally attributed to an assessment of the wider regional situation and consultations with stakeholders. No changes have been announced to Riyadh as host, to the tournament format, or to its role within Saudi Arabia's broader gaming and esports positioning.

As of August 27, 2026, no government platform such as أبشر, مقيم, قوى, ناجز, نفاذ or توكلنا has been specified as a required channel for participation, ticketing, visas or licensing tied specifically to the event, and no official fee schedule in ريال سعودي has been published. Standard tourism, work and event-permit procedures continue to apply.

Why it matters

Gaming and esports are classified as a strategic priority sector under رؤية السعودية 2030, aimed at supporting economic diversification and expanding high-growth digital industries. The National Gaming and Esports Strategy targets a contribution of around SAR 50 billion to GDP by 2030 — roughly 1% of national GDP — and the creation of more than 39,000 jobs.

The strategy seeks to position the Kingdom as a global hub in games and esports by 2030, backed by large-scale investment, including an announced program of around USD 38 billion channeled through national investment vehicles. Saudi Arabia's gaming market generated around USD 1.2 billion in revenue in 2024, roughly 20% of gaming revenues across the Middle East and North Africa.

The Kingdom continues to use major events such as the Esports World Cup in الرياض to attract international publishers, teams and investors, strengthening the local ecosystem that the Esports Nations Cup is expected to join once it takes place in 2027.
