Final Exit Visa in Saudi Arabia: Process & Checklist

A final exit visa is the document that officially ends your legal stay in Saudi Arabia. Issued by the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat), it cancels your iqama and requires you to leave the Kingdom permanently within its validity period. Whether you are a worker, a dependent, or a domestic worker, understanding the rules and preparing your paperwork in advance can save you from delays, fines, or a rushed departure. This Saudi Living guide walks you through the process step by step and lists exactly what to check before you apply.

What a final exit visa is — and who issues it

Unlike an exit/re-entry visa, a final exit visa is a one-way departure permit. Once used, your residency status is closed and you cannot return on the same iqama. Final exit visas are issued for three main categories:

  • Workers — issued by the employer or sponsor.
  • Dependents (family members) — issued by the head of household.
  • Domestic workers — issued by the sponsor.

The good news on cost: the government fee for issuing a final exit visa is SAR 0. Some service providers may charge a small electronic processing fee of around SAR 70, but the visa itself is free.

Validity: how long you have to leave

The standard validity of a final exit visa is 60 days from the date of issuance. You must depart within this window, and the visa cannot be extended. However, the actual validity you receive depends on how much time is left on your iqama:

  • If your iqama has 60 days or more remaining, the visa is usually issued with the full 60 days validity.
  • If your iqama has between 30 and 60 days left, the visa validity is generally limited to the remaining iqama validity.
  • A minimum of 30 days iqama validity is required to issue a final exit visa at all. If less than 30 days remain, you must renew the iqama first.

What to check before you apply

Most delays happen because a requirement was missed. Run through this checklist before starting:

  • Iqama validity: at least 30 days remaining; renew if shorter.
  • Passport validity: the passport must usually have at least 60 days remaining. Renew it before issuance if it falls short.
  • Financial dues: all outstanding traffic fines, government fees, and recorded financial dues linked to you must be settled first.
  • No legal blocks: the sponsor or head of household must confirm there are no active criminal cases or travel bans recorded against you in the relevant judicial or security systems.

Do not book flights before the visa is issued and confirmed. Because the visa cannot be extended, align your departure date with the validity period from day one.

The official channels

Final exit visas are managed entirely online through Saudi government portals:

  • أبشر (Absher) — for sponsors and heads of household to issue or cancel final exit visas for dependents and domestic workers, plus some employers.
  • مقيم (Muqeem) — the employer portal used by companies and institutions to issue or cancel final exit visas for sponsored employees.
  • قوى (Qiwa) — to manage and terminate employment contracts and record labor-status changes that typically must be aligned before a final exit is issued.
  • Tawasul e-service within the Interior Ministry e-portal — used in special or exceptional cases, such as an expired visit visa that needs a final departure.

How to issue it via Absher (sponsor/employer)

For those using أبشر, the basic flow is:

  • Log in to your Absher individual or business account.
  • Go to “Services” under the relevant section (My Services, Residents, or Employment, depending on your role).
  • Select “Visa Services,” then “Issue Final Exit Visa.”
  • Choose the worker or dependent from the list.
  • Confirm that the passport, iqama, and financial status all meet the requirements, then submit.

Employers issuing for staff will usually complete or align the contract termination in قوى before the exit is processed in مقيم.

Final tips before departure

Close your local commitments early: settle utility and telecom bills, cancel your bank account after receiving your end-of-service dues, and hand over any leased property. Keep digital and printed copies of your issued visa. If any figure, fee, or step differs from what you see, always confirm the latest details directly on the official Saudi government portal you are using — أبشر or مقيم — before you travel.
