Gyr Falcon Chick Sells for SAR 1.3M at Malham Auction

A Canadian-bred Super White mottled gyr falcon chick sold for 1.3 million Saudi riyals on the seventh night of the International Falcon Breeders Auction 2026, held at the National Center for Falcons headquarters in Malham, about 65 km north of Riyadh. The sale marks the highest price recorded at this year's edition and the second-highest in the auction's history.

Bidding for the juvenile three-quarter gyr Super White male opened at SAR 200,000 and climbed through competitive bidding to SAR 1.3 million. The winning buyer was Nova Falcons, a Saudi falcon breeding and investment entity.

On the same night, another falcon from the same Canadian breeding farm — a pure gyrfalcon chick — opened at SAR 40,000 and sold for SAR 150,000. Together, the two Canadian falcons fetched a combined SAR 1.45 million.

The all-time record price at the auction remains SAR 1.75 million, set in 2021 for an Ultra White gyrfalcon chick. The 2026 edition runs until 25 August 2026 and features international breeding farms offering birds in live competitive auctions.

Why it matters

A new 2026 rule ties auction purchases to the sport: only falcons bought through the 2026 International Falcon Breeders Auction are eligible to compete across all local and international falcon chick racing categories, subject to applicable racing regulations. For enthusiasts and investors, that makes the auction a gateway to competition as much as a marketplace. Sessions are broadcast on television and live-streamed on the National Center for Falcons' official social media channels, keeping fans connected to one of the Kingdom's most closely watched heritage events.
