Customs officers at Jeddah Islamic Port foiled an attempt to smuggle 58.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, known as shabu, into Saudi Arabia on 14 August 2026. The narcotics were concealed inside a shipment of men's shoes arriving through the port.
the drugs were uncovered during a routine customs inspection that relied on advanced security technologies alongside live detection methods used to examine incoming cargo.
Following the discovery, three intended recipients inside the Kingdom were arrested after coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. Investigations into the case are continuing.
Why it matters
The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of customs authorities at the Kingdom's ports to intercept narcotics before they reach the community. Jeddah Islamic Port is one of the country's busiest entry points for goods, and inspection teams there play a central role in blocking smuggling attempts that use commercial shipments as cover.
Residents are reminded that involvement in the smuggling, receiving, or trafficking of narcotics carries severe legal penalties in Saudi Arabia. Authorities continue to combine technology with field expertise to detect concealment methods and pursue those behind such operations.
