Makkah Expands Umrah Packages With Cultural Visits

Authorities in Makkah, together with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, recently hosted a familiarization tour for more than 70 Umrah and travel entities, aiming to expand international Umrah packages that combine rituals with historical and cultural visits across the city.

The initiative brings together the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Its stated goal is to diversify the options available to pilgrims and to strengthen Makkah's presence within packages offered by international Umrah companies.

The tour targeted international Umrah operators, overseas agents, and travel companies, giving them a closer look at the cultural and historical experiences that can be added to their programs.

Why it matters

For pilgrims arriving from abroad, richer packages could mean the chance to explore more of Makkah's heritage alongside performing Umrah, turning the visit into a fuller experience. For the local tourism sector, the move supports the growing focus on cultural and heritage offerings.

The effort reflects a wider direction seen in Makkah during 2025 and 2026. In one 2025 agreement, the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites partnered with Almosafer to design and promote "Umrah+" itineraries that mix rituals with cultural, historical, and leisure experiences. Separately, a 2026 coordination step saw the Makkah Development Authority and the Ministry of Tourism sign a memorandum of understanding to strengthen tourism development and joint initiatives in the region.

No package prices, service fees, validity periods, or specific booking channels were announced as part of the familiarization tour.
