Paying Traffic Fines with Najm and Absher

Traffic fines in Saudi Arabia are handled through official government channels, and it helps to understand which platform does what. A common point of confusion is the role of Najm: it manages accident and insurance cases, but the traffic fine itself is not paid inside Najm. Instead, you settle violations through Absher and SADAD or your bank. This guide from Saudi Living walks you through the full process, the money-saving early-payment discount, and how to object if you believe a fine is unfair.

How Najm, Saher and Absher work together

These three systems are often mentioned in the same breath, but they play different roles:

  • Saher cameras register violations in the traffic system, and those violations then appear in Absher as traffic fines.
  • Najm handles the accident and insurance case when a collision occurs.
  • Absher / SADAD is where you actually pay the fine.

The important detail: when an accident involves a Saher violation, the insurance case is processed separately through Najm, but the at-fault driver still pays the Saher traffic fine personally through Absher or SADAD — even if insurance covers the accident damage. The two are not the same transaction.

Standard fine ranges in 2026

General traffic fines currently range roughly from SAR 150 to SAR 3,000 depending on the violation category, though serious offences carry higher penalties. Some examples from the current schedules:

  • Running a red light: up to SAR 6,000.
  • Amber light violations: SAR 3,000–6,000.
  • Using a mobile phone while driving: about SAR 900.
  • Overtaking on the shoulder or on the right: up to SAR 6,000.
  • Speeding: typically starts around SAR 300 and can reach SAR 10,000 for very excessive speeds, with possible licence suspension.
  • Parking violations: about SAR 100–900.

Because schedules are updated periodically, always confirm the exact amount shown against your record in Absher.

The 25% early-payment discount

This is the single most useful thing to remember. Newly issued traffic violations are eligible for a 25% discount if you pay within 30 days from the notification date. After 30 days, the full fine applies with no discount. Given how quickly the days pass, it pays to check Absher regularly rather than waiting for a reminder.

How to pay through Absher

Absher is the main channel for viewing and settling fines. The typical steps are:

  • Sign in using your National ID or iqama number and password.
  • Go to My Services → Traffic Services → Traffic Violations (or Traffic → Pay Violations / Query Traffic Violations).
  • Review the full list of violations recorded against both the vehicle and your iqama.
  • Select the violation you want to settle and complete payment via SADAD or your bank.

You can also pay through your bank's app or online banking using the SADAD system once the violation appears there. Keep the payment confirmation until the record clears.

Disputing a violation

If you believe a fine was issued in error, you have the right to object. The objection window is 30 days from the notification date, and disputes filed after this period are normally rejected. Submit your objection through the traffic services in Absher and follow the outcome there.

Requesting a payment-deadline extension

If the objection period has already expired, you may be able to request an extension of the deadline for paying your traffic violations. The main conditions are:

  • The violation must be beyond the 30-day objection period.
  • The extension request must be submitted within 15 days after the end of the objection period.
  • You must have a digital ID registered on Absher.

Practical tips

  • Check Absher regularly so you catch the 25% discount window in time.
  • Remember that settling a Najm insurance case does not clear your personal Saher fine.
  • Keep your Absher contact details current so notifications reach you.
  • For any exact fee, deadline or dispute status, confirm directly on the official Absher platform.

Understanding which platform does what saves both money and stress. Najm keeps your accident and insurance matters moving, while Absher and SADAD keep your traffic record clean — and paying early keeps a quarter of the fine in your pocket.
