Sitting on the Red Sea coast in the Makkah region, Rabigh is a warm, sunny destination for most of the year. Its hot desert climate means long stretches of clear skies, very warm sea water, and very little rain. Whether you're planning a beach day, a coastal getaway, or a move to the area, knowing what to expect from Rabigh's weather season by season will help you pick the right time to go. Here's Saudi Living's practical breakdown of the climate and the best months to visit.
Rabigh's Climate at a Glance
Rabigh has a hot desert climate, marked by very hot summers, mild to warm winters, and mostly clear skies throughout the year. The average annual temperature sits around 31–32°C, with daytime highs typically between 35 and 39°C and nights easing to around 19–24°C. With more than 300 sunny days a year, it ranks among the sunnier coastal areas in the Kingdom.
Summer (June–September): Hot and Humid
Summer is intense. Daytime highs commonly reach 39–42°C and can spike above 45–48°C during heat waves. Because Rabigh sits on the coast, humidity from the Red Sea can push the "feels-like" temperature well beyond 50°C at the peak of the season.
- Sea surface temperatures reach around 30–32°C, so the water is very warm for swimming.
- These months are effectively rain-free, with some datasets recording 0 mm in June and July.
- Plan outdoor activities for early morning or after sunset, and stay well hydrated.
Winter (December–February): Mild and Comfortable
Winter offers the most pleasant conditions of the year. Daytime highs usually range from about 28 to 31°C, while nights drop to around 18–21°C, occasionally dipping toward 15°C on the coldest nights. Days are dry, sunny, and ideal for outdoor exploration, coastal walks, and sightseeing.
Spring (March–May): One of the Best Windows
Spring brings warm but manageable heat, with daytime temperatures generally between 31 and 36°C and very little rain. This period is widely considered one of the best times to visit Rabigh, striking a good balance between comfortable weather and warm-enough sea temperatures for coastal activities.
Autumn (October–November): Cooling Down
Early October can still feel hot, with daytime highs around 34–38°C and warm nights near 26–30°C, but conditions moderate noticeably by November. November is typically the wettest month, receiving roughly 25–30 mm of rain, while most other months see little to none.
Rainfall and Sunshine
Rabigh sees very low annual rainfall, roughly 7–40 mm depending on the period and dataset, concentrated mainly in late autumn and early winter, especially November and December. Even during the "rainy" season, most months still record 27–29 dry days with only 2–3 days of measurable rain.
The Best Time to Visit Rabigh
For the most comfortable trip, aim for the cooler and more moderate months:
- Winter (December–February): the mildest daytime temperatures and pleasant evenings.
- Spring (March–May): warm days, low rainfall, and warm sea water — ideal for the coast.
- Late autumn (November): cooling temperatures, though it's the wettest month, so keep an eye on the forecast.
If you visit in summer, plan around the heat and humidity, save the beach for early or late in the day, and always check the latest local forecast before you set out.
