Red Weather Alerts for Makkah, Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha

The National Center for Meteorology has issued red alerts for heavy rain and thunderstorms capable of triggering flash floods across the regions of Makkah, Jazan, Asir and Al-Baha, with warnings active on Sunday, 6 September 2026 and heavy rainfall expected to continue over the following days.

The red alerts cover specific areas within these regions, including Al-Majardah and Rijal Almaa in Asir and the city of Al-Baha in Al-Baha region. Forecasters expect moderate to heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail, active winds, reduced visibility and possible flash floods across parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and the highlands of the Makkah region through at least 4 September 2026.

In the affected southwestern areas, rainfall rates can reach between 10 and 50 millimetres sharply raising the risk of torrential flows and flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas. Orange alerts, indicating moderate rain or thunderstorms with a lower but still significant risk, are active at times in parts of Makkah, Jazan, Asir and Al-Baha, including Maysan and Taif in the Makkah region.

Why it matters

The red level is the highest risk category, signalling severe weather with a high likelihood of dangerous impacts such as flash floods, hail and very strong winds. The current warnings extend across multiple days, pointing to a sustained severe weather episode rather than isolated storms.

Residents in the affected regions are urged to avoid valleys, flood channels and low-lying areas, follow guidance from civil defence and relevant authorities, and monitor official meteorological updates for the latest interactive maps and daily forecasts throughout the validity of the red and orange alerts.
