Riyadh Biotech Summit Ends With Over SAR 5bn Deals

The fourth Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit concluded in Riyadh on September 17, 2026, producing more than 40 agreements, initiatives, and announcements with a combined estimated value exceeding SAR 5 billion. The aggregate figure was not an exact fee or cash payment, and no complete itemized breakdown was published.

The event drew more than 15,000 visitors from over 57 countries and featured more than 200 speakers across over 70 sessions, positioning it as a major gathering for the medical biotechnology sector in the region.

Vaccine manufacturing and localization

Among the highlights was a Saudi vaccine-manufacturing project valued at SAR 500 million. Covering 42,000 square meters and reported as 85% complete, the facility is planned to locally produce up to 80% of essential vaccine needs.

The summit also saw three localization agreements for the medicines semaglutide, aflibercept, and ustekinumab. These deals were estimated to contribute SAR 4.4 billion to gross domestic product and to create more than 800 jobs.

For residents and expats across the Kingdom, the outcomes point to stronger local production of medicines and vaccines, which can support supply reliability and expand skilled employment opportunities in the healthcare and life-sciences fields, in line with wider efforts to diversify the economy.
