Riyadh Metro Guide 2026: Lines, Fares & Tips

The Riyadh Metro has transformed how residents move around the capital. Fully operational since 2025, this modern network stretches across the city and offers a fast, air-conditioned and affordable alternative to driving through traffic. Whether you are a long-time resident or newly arrived, this guide from سعودي ليفنج walks you through the lines, the fares, the Darb app, operating hours and the practical tips you need to ride with confidence.

The 6 Lines at a Glance

The network is made up of 6 lines covering roughly 176 km and around 85 stations, connecting key districts, business hubs, universities and transport points across الرياض.

  • Blue Line 1
  • Red Line 2
  • Orange Line 3
  • Yellow Line 4
  • Green Line 5
  • Purple Line 6

Lines intersect at several interchange stations, so you can transfer between colours to reach most parts of the city without needing a car.

Ticket Prices (2026)

Fares are simple and shared across the metro and integrated bus network. There are two classes: standard and first class. First-class carriages offer more space and comfort but require a valid first-class ticket to board.

Standard class:

  • 2-hour ticket: 4 SAR
  • 3-day ticket: 20 SAR
  • 7-day ticket: 40 SAR
  • 30-day ticket: 140 SAR

First class:

  • 2-hour ticket: 10 SAR
  • 3-day ticket: 50 SAR
  • 7-day ticket: 100 SAR
  • 30-day ticket: 350 SAR

Children under 6 years travel free of charge.

Long-Term & Student Passes

If you commute regularly, a long-term pass can save you a lot compared with buying short tickets.

  • Annual pass, standard class: 1,260 SAR, valid 12 months from activation
  • Annual pass, first class: 3,150 SAR, valid 12 months from activation
  • Student pass, standard class: 260 SAR for 120 days (one academic term/semester). A first-class student pass is not available.

Buying and Managing Tickets: The Darb App & Card

There are two easy ways to pay:

  • The Darb mobile app for Android and iOS, where you can buy and manage digital tickets.
  • A Darb contactless card, available from ticket vending machines inside stations, which you top up as needed.

Before entering the paid area, make sure your card has enough balance or that you have a valid digital ticket in the app.

How to Ride: Step by Step

  • Buy or top up a Darb card, or purchase a digital ticket in the Darb app before entering the paid area.
  • Tap your card or scan the app QR/barcode at the entry gates.
  • Board in the correct section — first-class areas on trains and platforms require a first-class ticket.
  • Repeat the tap or scan at the exit gates to validate your journey within the ticket's validity.

Operating Hours & Ramadan Schedule

Typical 2026 operating hours are:

  • 5:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. on most days
  • Until 1:00 a.m. on Fridays
  • Trains every 2.5–3 minutes at peak times

During Ramadan, the schedule shifts to suit the rhythm of the month: services usually start around 8:15 a.m. and continue until about 2:59 a.m., covering evening prayers and late-night activity.

Tips for a Smooth Ride

  • Keep some balance on your Darb card so you are never stuck at the gate.
  • Travel outside the morning and evening peaks for a more comfortable trip.
  • If you commute daily, compare a 30-day or annual pass against single tickets — the savings add up quickly.
  • Only board first-class sections if you hold a first-class ticket to avoid issues at the gates.
  • Always confirm the latest fares, hours and pass details on the official Riyadh transport portal before travelling.

With affordable fares, frequent trains and easy digital payment, the Riyadh Metro is one of the simplest ways to get around the capital — worth adding to your daily routine.
