King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah continues to operate during October 2026, with travelers reporting flight delays and cancellations. Disruption figures vary from day to day and from one flight to another, so passengers are urged to verify the status of their specific flight directly with the airline before heading to the airport.
Under passenger-protection rules, travelers facing a cancellation may either accept an alternative flight or terminate the contract and receive a full refund, including any additional fees the passenger paid. Compensation levels depend on how early the cancellation is announced: 50% of the unused ticket value if notice is given between 60 and 14 days before departure, 75% if given between 14 days and 24 hours before departure, and 150% if announced less than 24 hours before departure.
For delays, if a flight is held up for more than two hours, the passenger may request to cancel the contract and receive a refund without any deduction. A delay exceeding five hours may be treated as a cancellation, allowing the passenger to claim cancellation-related compensation. A delay of more than six hours may qualify for compensation of 150 SDR, converted to Saudi Riyal at the applicable rate.
How to file a complaint
Passengers should first contact the airline through its airport desk, customer-service channel, website, or application, and obtain a complaint reference number. If the complaint remains unresolved, it can be escalated to the General Authority of Civil Aviation through its electronic complaint service, by calling 1929, or via Tawakkalna.
No fixed airport fee, refund-processing charge, or compensation amount in Saudi Riyal can be stated in advance, as the final figure depends on the airline, the ticket fare, the route, and the specific circumstances of the disruption. Keeping documentation and reference numbers will help speed up any claim.
