Saudi Arabia Recognized Free from Dourine in Horses

Saudi Arabia has been recognized as free from dourine in horses, a designation confirmed in August 2026 following an international review of the Kingdom's national disease surveillance and control systems. The recognition applies to the country's equine population and reflects the strength of its veterinary monitoring framework.

The recognition was tied to a technical file submitted by the Kingdom, covering epidemiological surveillance, field surveys, and precautionary measures. Saudi Arabia's veterinary system relies on active disease surveillance for equine diseases alongside movement-control measures applied to horses.

Dourine is a disease that affects horses, and a country's official disease-free status is an important marker for animal health authorities, horse owners, breeders, and those involved in equine trade and movement. This is a disease-status designation rather than a public service, so no fee or price is associated with it.

The available information does not specify a validity period for the dourine-free recognition. For horse owners and the wider equine community, the recognition underscores ongoing efforts to maintain high standards of animal health and to safeguard the Kingdom's horse population through continued monitoring and reporting.

Saudi Living will continue to follow developments related to animal health status and veterinary services across the Kingdom.
